Life can feel overwhelming.

You’re constantly juggling work, parenting, and relationships. You stay up at night worrying and making endless to-do lists. You feel burnt out, and you’re snapping at your partner, coworkers, or kids, even when you don’t mean to. You’re doing everything you can to hold it all together, but things still slip through the cracks. You may also be worried about your child — they’re struggling at school or at home, having trouble managing emotions or behaviours. You’re unsure how to support them, and it leaves you feeling helpless and exhausted.

At Ethos Psychotherapy and Assessment Centre, we provide holistic, culturally competent therapy and assessments that honour your lived experience. Our goal is to help you uncover your strengths, build emotional resilience, and regain a sense of control in your life.

We support individuals navigating anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, burnout, relationship issues, and life transitions. Our team works collaboratively with you to develop practical coping tools, manage stress, regulate emotions, and strengthen your relationships — helping you feel like yourself again. We also offer child and teen therapy, supporting young people as they learn to express emotions, manage behaviour, and thrive at home and in school.

Sometimes, emotional and behavioural challenges stem from an unidentified neurodiversity. That’s why we offer psychoeducational assessments for children, teens, and adults — to help identify ADHD, learning disabilities (like dyslexia), autism, or giftedness. These assessments lead to clear, personalized recommendations that support success at school, work, and in everyday life.

Frequently
Asked Questions

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who typically prescribes medication and makes clinical diagnoses, while a psychologist has completed either their Doctorate or Masters degree in psychology and usually conducts psychotherapy and assessments, as well as making clinical diagnoses.
Psychotherapy is a talk-based therapy that is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being.
The main determinant of the effectiveness of psychotherapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. It is through this trusting and caring relationship that clients feel understood and learn strategies that bring about positive change in their thinking, feelings, behaviour, and social functioning.

OHIP does not pay for psychologists’ private services. Some extended health insurance plans will reimburse all or part of the fees paid to a psychologist. Extended healthcare insurance plans differ considerably in the types of coverage they provide. Please check your plan carefully to see what the coverage is for psychological services, the claim procedure, details required on receipts, payment options, and whether or not you require a letter of referral from your physician.

The Canada Revenue Agency has ruled that non-reimbursed fees paid to a registered psychologist in Ontario may be claimed as medical expenses on your income tax return.

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that starts in childhood and persists into adulthood. If you have always had difficulty concentrating, paying attention to details, making careless mistakes, feeling restless, sitting still, talking a lot, interrupting others, being easily distractible, planning and organizing, easily forgetting instructions or struggling to listen when others are speaking, then an assessment to determine if you have ADHD would be helpful.

An ADHD assessment looks at the history and current presentation of your inattentive and hyperactivity symptoms, as well as your learning, memory, and executive functioning profile.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that begins in childhood and last into adulthood. ASD is characterized with difficulties in social communication (both verbal and nonverbal), a lack of interest social relationships, difficulty understanding emotions and nonverbal communication (like facial expressions and body language), and is often times accompanied by fixed or intense interests, rigid routines or a resistance to change, stereotyped body movements, and sensory sensitivities.

An ASD assessment involves an in-depth clinical interview, cognitive and adaptive behaviour testing, as well as the administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-II) with children and adolescents.

Giftedness is not a clinical diagnosis but rather a description of people who are talented and highly intelligent. Each school board defines “giftedness” differently and Mensa defines it as someone who has an IQ score of 98th percentile or higher.

To determine if you are gifted, you must complete an intellectual assessment, and for some school boards you must also complete a partial academic assessment.

A learning disability a neurodevelopmental disorder whereby you have average to above average thinking and reasoning skills but that there is some processing weakness like memory problems, weak phonics skills, slow processing speed, or weak fine-motor skills that is causing your difficulty in reading, writing, or math.
