Fees & Policies

per hour

Intake sessions typically last 60 to 90 minutes. All other sessions are 25 to 50 minutes.

The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) does not pay for psychologists’ private services. We charge an hourly rate of $240 for all direct contacts, either in the context of treatment or assessment. An hour of treatment includes 50 minutes of face-to-face contact and 10 minutes for documentation. The hourly rate also applies to time spent in indirect service, which includes telephone consultations, completion of forms (during or following the course of treatment or assessment), and preparation of documents including assessment reports, consultation or progress reports, and letters.

The first session with a therapist is an intake assessment that lasts between 60 – 90 minutes. All sessions thereafter are 50 minute sessions, which cost $240.

Psychoeducational Assessments

Psychoeducational Assessment

Adult ADHD

Psychoeducational assessments typically take 8-10 hours for assessment and consultation (i.e., 1 hour intake interview, 6-8 hours one-to-one assessment, 1 hour feedback meeting) and several hours for scoring and report writing. A complete psychoeducational assessment costs approximately $3000. If there is also a complex social-emotional diagnostic evaluation, this can cost more.

A developmental assessment examining Autism Spectrum Disorder costs more than the complete psychoeducational assessment.

An adult ADHD assessment costs approximately $2400 – $2800.

A gifted assessment takes less time and usually costs approximately $1200-1440.

Asked Questions

OHIP does not pay for psychologists’ private services. Some extended health insurance plans will reimburse all or part of the fees paid to a psychologist. Extended healthcare insurance plans differ considerably in the types of coverage they provide. Please check your plan carefully to see what the coverage is for psychological services, the claim procedure, details required on receipts, payment options, and whether or not you require a letter of referral from your physician.

The Canada Revenue Agency has ruled that non-reimbursed fees paid to a registered psychologist in Ontario may be claimed as medical expenses on your income tax return.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who typically prescribes medication and makes clinical diagnoses, while a psychologist has completed either their Doctorate or Masters degree in psychology and usually conducts psychotherapy and assessments, as well as making clinical diagnoses.

Payment for services is due at the end of each session, and a receipt will be given when payment is received. Please retain these receipts for your insurance or income tax claims, if applicable.

Payment is accepted by cheque, Debit, Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.

We require 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Appointments can be modified directly in your Jane client portal, via email, or phone. Providing less than 48 hours notice will result in being charged the full session fee.
